Set Your Dreamcast Now Username!

Today I would like to bring to your attention a major issue facing our world today… the crazy number of people that haven’t set their Dreamcast Now username! Are you one of these people? If you are, let me ask you one question: Do you want to continue being a nobody? Just some schmoe that plays Dreamcast games online and doesn’t have the courage to shout their name out to the world? I implore you, don’t be a nobody! Be a somebody! Be anybody! I don’t care! It’s time to tell the world who you are!

Alright, so with that inspirational speech out of the way, let’s get down to the brass tacks. How do you set your Dreamcast Now username? Well it’s rather simple. The first thing you need to do is find out your DreamPi’s IP address. To do this, simply plug your Pi into a monitor or TV, wait for it to boot up, and look for the line that says “My IP address is XXX.XXX.X.XXX”.

Once you have the IP address, head on over to the Dreamcast Now Configuration page, enter the IP address, and hit the ‘Detect’ button. Now you can enter your username and set an avatar. For the avatar you’ll need to sign up for a free Gravatar account, upload an avatar, and enter the email address you used to sign up. Once you’ve entered your username and Gravatar email, hit the ‘Update Profile’ button.

Congratulations! You’re now a somebody! Now go and spread the word! Tell everybody to be somebody!

  1. I own 2 Pi model 1 B+ boards… Both run the DreamPi software just fine and grants me access to everything so far that I’ve tried, Quake, PSO1+2 (plus and original). But for the life of me, I can not get Dreamcast Live to see either of my Pis when I use thier IP addresses obtained by doing the manual login to dreampi and ‘ifconfig’ via a keyboard and HDMI output… Any insight?

  2. I am having the same issue as the other couple people also. I try to setup my account with my username and Gravatar email address and nothing happens after clicking the Update Profile. I then have to hard reboot my DreamPi since it no longer detects it via IP if I refresh the page. I am 110% I am using usernames that have not been taken (even just coming up with random usernames does nothing). Anybody know what’s up?

  3. I have the same situation as David. I click “Configure” then put the IP address of my Pi. It finds it; I edit my name and my gravatar email and press “Update profile”. All that this does is clears the email input box. If I refresh the page, the name is reverted back to “Unnamed”.

Is the name and email something that is saved server side? Or we can edit some config file on our DreamPi to plug in the name and email? Would be grateful for some help.

  4. i am on the configure page and have setup a gravatar account and added a avatar image, i have entered a user name and the gravatar email address has been entered but pressing Update Profile does nothing, have tried with Chrome and Edge browser

    • I hope so too! There are over 100 players on Dreamcast Now that don’t have a name. Kazade is going to remedy this slightly by hiding players that haven’t been online in a long time. I’m sure most of the unnamed players aren’t that active.
