In the Line of Fire Kickstarter Launched!

The Kickstarter campaign for Militia Studio’s Dreamcast-exclusive first-person shooter, In the Line of Fire, has begun! I’ve been following this game from the very beginning of its development, being in awe of every new screenshot and video released. Unlike most indie Dreamcast titles which are 2D and released on multiple platforms, In the Line of Fire is a fully 3D first-person shooter that was built from the ground up to be a Dreamcast exclusive. This means it will be taking full advantage of the console’s hardware; pushing it to its very limits. Judging by what’s been shown so far, it could very well be up there with some of the best looking official releases on the system!

At the start of the single-player campaign you play as a SWAT officer who is sent to stop a bank robbery in progress. Unfortunately your mission is a failure and the robbers get away, killing you and your team in the process. Sad ending eh?

Ok so that’s not the end of the game. After this initial failure, you take the roll of a rookie SWAT officer who has dedicated his career to finding the criminals that committed this horrible crime. At the start you’ll have a limited skillset, but as you progress through the game you’ll gain more experience which will make you better, stronger, and faster. In addition, you’ll also have a hacking skill which can be used to hack security cameras and scope out rooms for enemies. Upon moving up in rank to SWAT commander, you’ll be able to assemble the A-Team… errr… a team, each member with their own unique set of skills. You can take command of your team and plan their every move, even before entering a room.

Not only will the game feature a full-blown single-player campaign but it will also have local multiplayer with both Deathmatch and King of the Hill modes. While the local multiplayer mode will only support two players, there’s also a chance for… wait for it… online multiplayer with up to four players! That’s right, this has the potential to be the first Dreamcast indie game to take advantage of the Dreamcast’s online capabilities! How exciting is that?! While admitedely, the $100,000 stretch goal required for this is a bit lofty, I’m hopeful we can make it happen. So what are you waiting for? Go back this Kickstarter! Do it! DO IT NOW! …. Pretty please???
