Floigan Bros. DLC Released!

It’s been 16 years since the game’s release but for the first time ever, all 12-months of timed DLC for Visual Concept’s Floigan Bros. has been released! For those of you unfamiliar with the DLC for Floigan Bros., they were monthly downloads called FMTs (Fun Moigle Things) that added things to the game like outfits for Moigle, goodies in the mailbox, and on one occasion (April) a brand new mini game. Previously only the January “Knitted Hat” DLC was archived online but thanks to help from the original developers and a little hackery, all the DLC has been found! As it turns out, the DLC was already contained on the disc and just needed to be unlocked. This was done back in the day via a save file that was downloaded to the VMU and contained flags which told the game what DLC to unlock. By manipulating the January DLC save file, we were able to unlock all the rest of the DLC. This was a little trickier than originally anticipated as security measures were put in place by both Sega and Visual Concepts to prevent tampering of save files by hackers. Little did the developers know that 16 years later they’d be doing the exact thing they were trying to prevent. Oh the irony! Luckily we were able to bypass these security measures and unlock all the DLC for everyone to enjoy. The developers seem to agree that much of this DLC was never even released back in the day so this may be the first time anyone outside of the development studio will get to see it.

I want to give a huge shout-out and thank you to Tim Meekins, Nick Jones, and John Elliot of the original Floigan Bros. development team for all their help. Also a special thanks to Nate Bamberger and Luke Benstead (Kazade).

  1. This is really cool. I don’t follow the Dreamcast Community closely, but steps like this are what’s making the historical preservation of videogames a reality. Awesome work!

  2. This is awesome!!! I’ve been wishing for this to be made available for so long… Major thanks to everyone involved at Visual Concepts – you are the best!!!

  3. I have a doubt, in original website, this dlc file were in separate vms files to download one by month, or only january dlc was released originally? Thanks

    • You are correct. Back in the day you would only be able to have one month’s DLC at a time. Thanks to some hacking though, it’s now all in one file. 🙂
